This policy covers the Citations.io AI Crawler Checker Chrome extension only. It is separate from the Citations.io platform privacy policy.
Data we collect
None. The extension does not collect, store, sell or share personal data. There is no account, no sign-in and no user identifier of any kind.
Analytics and tracking
The extension contains no analytics, no telemetry, no tracking pixels, no advertising identifiers and no third-party scripts.
What happens when you use it
When you click the extension icon, it reads the URL of the active tab and requests the /robots.txt file published at that page's origin. That request goes directly from your browser to the website you are viewing, in the same way your browser would load any other page on that site.
The robots.txt content is evaluated locally in your browser and the result is shown in the popup. Nothing is written to disk beyond your browser's normal HTTP cache, and the result is discarded when the popup closes.
Data sent to Citations.io
None. The extension never transmits the URL you are viewing, the robots.txt content, the result, or any other information to Citations.io or to any third party. It makes no network requests to Citations.io servers.
Permissions and why they are needed
The extension requests a single permission, activeTab. This grants temporary access to the currently active tab, and only after you explicitly click the extension icon. It is used to read that tab's URL so the correct robots.txt can be checked against the correct path. The extension does not request broad host permissions, does not run background scripts, and cannot read or modify page content.
Remote code
The extension executes no remote code. All logic is bundled in the published package, and it loads no remote fonts, stylesheets or scripts.
Children
The extension is a technical tool intended for website owners and marketers. It is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If the extension's data practices ever change, this page will be updated before the change ships, and the extension listing will reference the updated policy.
